Re-Elect Mayor Brian Wahler

A life long resident of Piscataway Township, Brian Wahler's interest in government affairs was sparked in the fifth grade when the Mayor of Piscataway, at that time, the Honorable Ted Light, came to speak to his class about the importance of becoming involved in your local government. He spent his last two years of high school in Washington, D.C. where he served as a Congressional Page to New Jersey Congressman Edward J. Patten and ultimately became the Personal Congressional Page to Speaker Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill, Jr.

Brian attended and graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in Political Science. While at Rutgers, he earned the honor of being selected as an Undergraduate Associate with the Eagleton Institute of Politics and Public Policy.

His professional career began working in his family's business. During the 15 years that he worked there he always found time to volunteer in the community. He served on the Piscataway Turn on Youth Coalition and was an active member of the Lion's Club.

In 1992 Brian entered local politics as a candidate for the Township Council representing Ward 2. During that campaign he visited every constituent in his district at least once. He won and was then reelected to a second term. During these years he served on the Finance and Public Works Committees, was a member and secretary of the Board of Adjustment, and served as the Vice President and President of the Council. In the year 2000 he successfully ran for the Office of Mayor, shaking as many hands and meeting as many residents as possible while wearing out several pairs of shoes! He was honored to be elected by the voters to serve a second term in 2004 wearing out even more shoes!

As Mayor of a historic community, founded in 1666, and home to more than 50,000 residents and many fortune 500 companies, he serves as the Public Safety Director and is a member of the Township Planning Board. He hosts his own live monthly television show, "Eye on Piscataway" and takes calls from residents on all subjects.

Brian's dedication to being the Mayor is unquestionable and his love for Piscataway unwavering. Don't be surprised if you see him driving up and down the streets in town, making notes about what improvements need to be made. Any citizen in town can mention their address to him and he will immediately know the street, and know everything about it. If the street is on the list to be repaved - he knows it. If there are potholes, he knows where on the Street Repairs list the street is. He aims to be personally responsive to every resident in town. He also makes a point of stopping at each of the various parks in town to see that they are being enjoyed and that everything is in order. Brian tells graduating students from Piscataway High School to remember that Piscataway will always be their home. He welcomes them to return and, like him, take part in their community as young adults.

Mayor Wahler was born at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ and is proud to have lived in Piscataway his entire life and to now be raising his children here. Although Piscataway has changed immensely since the days of his childhood he is committed to making our township the best place to live. He is married to the former Paulette Crabiel and together they have one daughter, Olivia, and two sons, B.C. and Michael.
